September 3rd - 5th - 46th Annual Labor Day Rodeo
The Lewisville Saddle Club, with sponsorship from the City of Lewisville, will present the 46th Annual Labor Day Rodeo on Sept. 3-5, starting at 8 p.m. nightly, at the Mill Street Arena. Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for children age 6-11, and free for children 5 and under.

Mutton Bustin’ and Junior Barrels competitions will take place Friday and Saturday. Call for entries by Monday, Aug. 30, at 214.534.8440. Entertainment at the event includes PRCA circuit performers Texas Kid Rodney Hayes and The Pony Express.

The City of Bedford and the Community Affairs Commission will host an information workshop. Guest speakers will discuss solar power for home and business use. August 21st - Motorcycle Display at Old Town Farmers Market

Old Town Lewisville will host its weekly Farmers Market at Wayne Ferguson Plaza on Saturday. The Aug. 21 event also will offer a motorcycle display. People's choice voting will be from 9-11:30 a.m., with the winner announced at 11:45 a.m. The winner will receive a prize basket provided by the farmer’s market vendors and a $100 gift card to the Old Town Flying Pig. Registration will take place at the Lewisville Convention & Visitors Booth located at the Farmers Market.


August 21st - September 25th - Visual Art League Exhibitions
Visual Art League photography exhibition opens Aug. 21

The Visual Art League of Lewisville will be hosting their first photography exhibition in their front and side galleries. The show, called "Through the Viewfinder," is a collaboration of photographic art by six different photographers.

The members show will feature art but no photography, entitled, "No Camera's Allowed." The judge for this show will be Thomas Smith, Branch Manager of Point Bank in Lewisville. Opening reception for both shows will be on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 7-9 p.m. The new show will run through Sept. 25.

Weatherization grant program now available

Community Services, Inc. has funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to weatherize more than 300 homes in Lewisville and Denton County.

Households within certain income limits and renters living in single family homes may be eligible. Priority will be given to the lowest income, elderly, handicapped individuals and families with children under 6.

Weatherization includes insulation, caulking, patching, weather stripping, and improved energy efficient windows and air conditioning equipment.

For an application or for more information, call 1.800.831.9929, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

KLB offers free light bulbs, announces Yard of Month winners

Keep Lewisville Beautiful has awarded the June resident Yard of the Month winner to landscaped yard located at 983 Regency. The June business Yard of the Month winner is the property of the Lewisville Medical Center, located at 500 W. Main St.

KLB is looking for Yard of the Month nominations for May. Nominees should be identified by address only. All nominations must be in by the 20th of each month. Photos of each property will be displayed on www.keeplewisvillebeautiful.org by the 25th of each month. Votes may be submitted by email, fax or phone from the 25th of each month to the last day of the month. All winners will be posted on the website at the beginning of each month.

July 17th - 18th: Friends of Library Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Library Used Book Sale will be held Saturday, July 17, and Sunday, July 18, at the Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W. Main Street.

Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. New and gently used books, music, movies, audio books, children’s books, and more will be available. There will be more than 10,000 items for sale. On Sunday after 3 p.m., those purchasing a full bag will get another entire bag of items for just $5. Those attending Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. will need to enter the library via the Municipal Annex.

July 18 - 23rd - Texas Firefighter Olympics
More than 1,500 current and retired firefighters from Texas, New Mexico,
Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana will converge on Lewisville July 18-23 for
the 28th Texas Firefighter Olympics.

Firefighters will engage in a myriad of sports in an attempt to take home gold, including powerlifting, darts, archery, mountain biking, basketball, tennis and more. All contests will take place in the Lewisville area. For a complete list of events, venues and schedules, visit www.texasfirefighterolympics.com.

Special events also are on tap for the week of competition, including a luau on Lewisville Lake Wednesday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m., at Sneaky Pete’s. A Casino Night fundraiser also will be held that evening beginning at 9 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, the host hotel for the event.

DCTA is hosting a public meeting to continue discussions on a new proposed fare structure, a bus and rail integration plan and initial A-train service levels.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, at 7 p.m., in the Glenmore Savage Community Room at the Lewisville Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main Street (accessible via Connect Route 22). Additionally, the agency will outline proposed changes to its Access (Demand-Response/Paratransit) policy. Public comments on the proposal will be open through August. Comments can be submitted to info@dcta.net.

- LISD Adult and Community Education is offering a variety of Summer Enrichment Courses for children and teens.
- LLELA has a variety of one-day camps focused on environmental learning. (Ages 7 - 12)
- The City of Lewisville also has a variety of affordable summer camp offerings. (See Page 5 of the WOW Brochure.)
- Xtreme Response Camp is a camp for ages 12-15 where kids learn about various aspects of emergency response and public safety, including firefighting, police, EMS, and disaster preparedness.

Summer Camp Options for Children and Teens
- LISD Adult and Community Education is offering a variety of Summer Enrichment Courses for children and teens.
- LLELA has a variety of one-day camps focused on environmental learning. (Ages 7 - 12)
- The City of Lewisville also has a variety of affordable summer camp offerings. (See Page 5 of the WOW Brochure.)
- Xtreme Response Camp is a camp for ages 12-15 where kids learn about various aspects of emergency response and public safety, including firefighting, police, EMS, and disaster preparedness.

The Old Town Lewisville Farmers Market, a seasonal open-air forum for Denton County and North Texas-grown products, will be open Saturdays from May 15 through Oct. 30 starting at 8 a.m. at Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town Lewisville.

Sun Valley Aquatic Park, 801 S. Valley Parkway, will open Saturday, May 29, with free admission on Saturday from 1-6 p.m. and regular admission Sunday (2-6 p.m.) and Monday (noon-6 p.m.). Sun Valley and Old Town Aquatic Park, 535 W. College Street, will be open June 5-6, and will open for the summer season the afternoon of June 10.

The Eighth Annual Battle of the Badge Softball Tournament will be held Saturday, June 5, at the Lake Park Softball Complex starting at 9 a.m.

Lewisville Police Department will take on the Lewisville Fire Department at 9 a.m. Admission is $5 with children 12 and under free. A silent auction, concession stand and children’s activities also will be featured.

Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County.
