Today, I have struggled to organize my thoughts about the history that we have witnessed. Perhaps I will share something tomorrow.
But tonight, my most important celebration is that of my oldest son's 10th birthday.
Seth is 10 years old today, and I couldn't be a prouder dad. Though he gets on my nerves at times because he is JUST LIKE ME, he is truly the one who taught me what real love is all about. And though he gets annoyed at his mom and dad at times for the things we choose not to give him or do for him, I hope he knows that my love for him transcends my own need for survival.
Seeing how much this young man, my son, has developed in just a decade amazes me, and fills me with pride. I am a richer man having been touched by this young soul that God has entrusted to us.
Seth, I am sorry that your day was taken up with so much attention on other things. I enjoyed spending the day with you and the family, sitting on our bed, watching the Inauguration on TV.
I want you to know that the work that your mother and I put in so that Barack Obama might become President, was done with you and your brother in mind. I hope that some day you will understand.
Love, Dad
