TCEQ Prioritizes Barnett Shale Investigations

Oil and Gas

Oil and Gas

Open in new windowAccording to an interoffice memo (PDF) that was obtained by TxSharon, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will now begin investigating and responding to complaints about odors and health problems from gas wells within the Barnett Shale on a 12 hour response time.

According to the memo:

All complaints regarding oil and gas activities in the Barnett Shale will be given an "Immediate Response" priority. An on-site investigation will be conducted by the Dallas/Fort Worth Region staff within 12 hours of receipt of the complaint by the regional office.

We think this is good news, and a step in the right direction. We'll be looking at and posting more information about what to be looking for and how to file a complaint if you think there's a problem with a well, tank battery, compressor, or other Barnett Shale-related facility.

Download a FIDO Chart and Odor Log to keep handy if you work or live near a well or other odor source.

TxSharon has documents on her site, including an odor log and affidavit template.
