Former Denton County Commissioner Sandra B. (Sandy) Jacobs, 63, of Frisco has been arrested in Lewisville on charges of shoplifting between $50 and $500. Denton County Sheriff's records show that she was confined on Tuesday and released Wednesday after posting a $1,000 bond.
According to an affidavit (PDF) filed by Lewisville P.D., Jacobs attempted to steal a Dyson vacuum cleaner worth $319 from a Target store in Lewisville, but was apprehended by store security, and arrested by Lewisville Police. Jacobs signed a confession, and orally admitted taking the vacuum cleaner, even though she could afford it. According to the affidavit, Jacobs told the arresting officer "I'm on medication and that might be the reason I took the vacuum." Jacobs also stated "I wanted to see if I could get away with taking it, and would probably have gotten to my car, and turned around."
Jacobs also had other stolen items in her possession, including a baby toy, a teething ring, and granola bars.
Jacobs, a Republican, represented Denton County Precinct 2 until retiring in 2007. The Denton County office building in Carrollton is named after Jacobs.
If convicted of the Class B misdemeanor, Jacobs could face a maximum of 6 months in jail or a fine of $2,000.
We were trying to find some background information regarding the length of time Jacobs served as commissioner, and couldn't find when she began, but we did find some of Jacobs biographical information from her old Denton County website below:
