Denton County Dems Choose Wolper for Chair - Updated with Video

Rabble, rabble... RABBLE
Posted by WhosPlayin on 2009/5/14 20:40:00 (909 reads)

Earlier tonight at the Courthouse On the Square in Denton, local Democrats selected Phyllis Wolper to serve out the remainder of the unexpired term of outgoing party chairman, Neil Durrance.

Phyllis Wolper of Denton and Joyce Duesman of Pilot Point were the only candidates. Each gave a five minute speech and the Executive Committee was given the opportunity to ask questions. After voting procedures were settled, a roll-call vote was taken, the final total being close, but in favor of Wolper. There are no secret ballots in the Democratic Party, and precinct chairs were threatened with bodily injury if they abstained, since an election had to be completed tonight.

Although like all meetings, this one was open to any Democrat, only the elected and appointed Precinct Chairs were allowed to vote.

Duesman pledged to stick with the party and still become involved. We wish Phyllis Wolper Godspeed in accomplishing her goals for the party, and we thank Joyce Duesman for stepping forward for such a big job.

Re: Denton County Dems Choose Wolper for Chair
One thing we can count on is that the organization will continue to be the "City of Denton Democratic Party," as it has been for the last 10 years.

I love ya Phyllis, but it seems Lake Lewisville is akin to the Berlin Wall to Denton residents.

On the other hand, that leaves rich potential for Democratic Women of [all of] Denton County! My organization plans to introduce south county and north county women to the Democratic Party and let them know that there IS Democratic activism and presence outside of Denton.
